Geithner Urges Congress To Take Steps To Boost Short-Term Growth

U.S. policy makers cannot wait another year to try and boost the economy, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Tuesday, acknowledging the challenge of moving major legislation through Congress in a presidential election year.

Geithner, appearing at the Wall Street Journal CEO Council in Washington, said the White House is limited in its ability to unilaterally move measures intended to help an uneven recovery. He said lawmakers should consider some “substantial, powerful things now to make growth stronger in the short term.”
